What would Carrie Bradshaw do?
It’s a question I ask myself every time I walk out the front door. I don’t ask it referring to my personal life or God-forbid to my (admittedly nonexistent) love life. Instead, it’s a question I ask about my outfit. So maybe it’s not, “What would Carrie Bradshaw do?” but: “What would Carrie Bradshaw wear?”
I could’ve chosen any other fictional fashion icon to ask for approval, such as Serena Van Der Woodsen or Daisy Jones. But I selected Bradshaw, since style-wise, she’s the one I relate to (and admire) the most. She’s consistently fearless, a little chaotic, and always fabulous. So, without further ado, here are some requirements for a Carrie-approved look:
#1 It's all about the hair
Throughout Sex and the City, Bradshaw wears her gorgeous curls fluffed out in all of their messy, lion-like glory. They add the perfect amount of carelessness and boldness to any outfit. So, recently, I’ve worn my hair down or in a messy bun, effortlessly resembling Mufasa. I tend to do it whenever my outfit is particularly structured or plain. However, when my look is a tad too much, I wear my hair in a slick back.
It’s all about balance! People tend to forget about their hairstyle when in reality, it can make or break an outfit.
#2 An over-the-top shoe
It’s rare to see Bradshaw in shoes without a heel. Heck, she even wore heels to chase after
her boyfriend’s dog! For the sake of my feet, I don’t wear heels that often. I do, however, try to wear the “wrong” shoe.
Let me explain: if I were wearing a sporty ensemble, our instinct would be to wear sneakers. But, if you pair it with ballerinas, sandals, or if you’re Carrie: heels, it makes for an unexpected and iconic outfit.
#3 Bold accessories
I’m pretty sure “bold” is Carrie Bradshaw’s middle name. I mean, who else would waltz around New York in a tutu? But not all of us are that dedicated to boldness, and I respect that. So another way to stand out is through accessories. Recently, I’ve become obsessed with this butterfly necklace, making every outfit fun and flirty. Another accessory I’ve warmed up to is this black flower choker from Zara.
Speaking of flowers, Carrie Bradshaw is rarely seen without her iconic flower pin. So following her footsteps, I bought some fake flowers and created my own. Honestly, I give them five stars.
Anyways, that's just a little checklist I go through every time I get dressed, just to get a little closer to being Bradshaw.
Love,
a fan
