Not really, I just spend way too much time on Pinterest and Vogue Runway
I love predicting trends and take great pride in getting my guesses right. Right now, fashion week's coming to a close, AKA, it's the most auspicious time for predictions. And my sixth sense is tingling, so here are my Fall 2023 trend predictions:
Transparent Soul
This fall, we're freeing the nipple. Sheer and netted fabrics have taken over runways since the Spring of this year. It's great news for the girls who (like me) live in the tropics, as it's a great alternative for layering (you know, in a way where you don't die of a heat stroke). Side note, click to listen to Transparent Soul
Rad 80s Remembrance
While plenty of decades have been referenced on the runway lately, 80s silhouettes have reigned supreme. With enough shoulder pads for a small army, and super-sinched waists with large belts, we've practically gone back in time.
Seeing red
While I consider red to be essential to any fall palette, it is undeniably the accent color of choice for 2023-2024. All sorts of hues and tones have spawned this season, from tomato red to deep (nearly brown) burgundy. There's no escaping it, so you might as well embrace it, here are some ways to wear it:
Teeny, tiny, micro shorts
Personally, I live for a good micro short, it reminds me of 90s Kate Moss in the best way possible. My favorite way to wear this trend is with tuxedo shorts or patterned shorts, and in my opinion, they'll be overtaking the micro skirts pretty soon now. Here are some of my favorites:
Hardware Store Thrills
Don’t go to Home Depot just yet! By hardware, I mean chunky metal statement pieces. Whether that be metal detailing on a shirt, a shoe, or just really chunky jewelry, hardware is hitting us hard this fall season.
Not flared tights, tights with flare
Tights are such a fun, and underrated way, to make a statement. Heck, I even wear them when it’s not fall. But the tights I think will be trending sooner than later are the funky ones. Besides the classic, black and brown tights (which fall into the sheer fabric prediction), I think colored and heavily detailed tights will soon take over stores. I’ve had this feeling ever since Brandon Maxwell came out with these insane latex tights in his Pre-fall 2023 Collection… you heard it here first!
The Silver Age
This isn’t even a prediction, the silver renaissance is already upon us. You’re seriously going to look me in the eye (I know this is a screen) and tell me you haven’t seen the silver Onitsuka Tigers everywhere? Silver is a flattering color that shifts from day to night with ease, besides, the holiday season is always big on metallics. Here’s how we’re wearing silver:
B.B.B. (Big Beautiful Bows)
Bows are the continuation of the ballet-core trends of the spring. Not only that, but they’re totally replacing the flower statement pieces from earlier this year. We’re switching our chokers and belts from flowers to bows, get with the times! From teeny tiny bows to huge humongous bows, in your hair or on a dress, have dominated the runway:
Heels be gone
Flats are the shoe of 2023. Whether that be Birkenstocks, Ballerina’s, Mary Jane’s, mules, you name it! A good black patent ballerina is a fall staple. But you can incorporate other fall trends into your wardrobe with them too:
red mary janes
silver ballerinas
sheer flats
or flats with funky tights/socks
Not your average horse-girl
I love a good pair of riding boots. Forget booties! Right below the knee is where we want our boots; black, and dark brown, are the colors of choice. Match them with some funky tights, and you’ve got an unstoppable combo:
Office wear, but make it 90s
Another decade we are paying homage to this fall season is the 90s. Specifically, the office-chic, model-off-duty minimalism associated with it. This fall, basic staples will form the base of our wardrobe, and monochrome looks (I believe) will be all the rage. In my professional opinion, this is a continuation of the “quiet luxury” summer trends, only that people realized it wasn’t “quiet” it was: minimalist.
Anyway, those are my predictions. Follow them, or not, your choice!
Much love,
a prophet
