"Everybody makes mistakes"

-Miley Cyrus, 2007

You're so right, Miley, everybody makes mistakes. And seemingly, so do the Grammys, because it's outrageous that this is your first Grammy!

The woman who brought our beloved Hannah Montana to life. Who blessed our ears with "The Climb", who wrote the lyrics to the gut-wrenching "Wrecking Ball", and one of the most nostalgia-inducing party anthems of our time, "Party in the USA". Her lyrics are life-changing, the timbre of her voice irreplicable, and she is a living icon who should’ve won a Grammy years ago.

Still, regardless of all the times she should've won, she took her first and second Grammy home last Sunday. And, frankly, she deserves a third for her perfect execution of not one, not two, but five flawless outfit changes! Each one better than the last:

Her red carpet look was a one-of-a-kind John Galliano for Maison Margiela couture dress. The dress was put together by over 14,000 safety pins, and adorned with antique French beads, taking over six hundred hours to make. Her stylist, Bradley Kenneth, topped off the look with yellow velour pumps and of course, the hair! At first, it caught me off guard, but now I see the vision. It’s giving punk, it’s giving 70s, she’s channeling Barbarella in the best way possible and I am absolutely in love.

Then, receiving her first award of the night, she changed into this sparkly, sexy, halter-neck Tom Ford jumpsuit which looks like it was pulled straight from the 70s. Pairing perfectly with the hair, she was a stunner.

Taking the stage for her performance of “Flowers”, she changed into her third look. And... oh my God, her third look! It rendered me speechless the first time I saw it. It’s archival Bob Mackie, (the same guy who designed all of Cher’s outfits), specifically from his Fall/Winter 2002 collection. The beaded mini dress, strappy sandals, bronzed skin, and the hair! It was all perfect, just look at his picture:

This picture is deserving of a Rolling Stone cover. No, more than that, it captures the essence of all that is Miley Cyrus. They say an image is worth a thousand words. Well, I think this picture just made history.

And you would think she stayed in this outfit the rest of the night, right? No! Three looks are for suckers.

Faster than the speed of light, she changed into another Bob Mackie archival. This time, a sweetheart neckline lace jumpsuit with an embellished fringe belt and feather boa. In the brief time she wore the outfit, she gave us the femme fatale energy we craved, the love child of Cher and Grease.

And finally, she changed into her final look of the night to accept her second award, Record of the Year. She looked breathtaking in her sparkly, one-shoulder Gucci gown, with a slit so high it reached her waist.

Miley, I couldn't be happier for you (or your five outfits). The star of this year's Grammy's, you truly are a legend.

Love,

a groupie?
