B Mine?

Happy Valentine's my loves (or a couple of days late),

My mission today: is to brutally murder the stereotype that single girls cry on Valentine's. Not judging if you do, but what makes you think I’m crying on Valentine's if I don’t have a S/O? Valentine's is a day to celebrate love of all kinds! Given it’s my Senior Year, I decided to celebrate my love for all the girls who’ve filled my school years with joy, laughter, and friendship.

However, before I dive into how I spent the day, I want you to open Spotify and play the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Some” by Chromatics. This spin on Cindy Lauper’s iconic “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” has been the beat to my February, and the lyrics perfectly encapsulate my Valentine's experience. Is it playing? Gorgeous.

Only suckers celebrate the day of love on February 14th. Mine started on February 2nd, with one of my best friend’s birthday party. Her enchanting Marie Antoinette “Let them eat cake!’ themed 18th set the tone for the month. Maybe it was the fact that we were all dressed up, or that the lights of the firework show shone pure magic, but as my girlfriends and I danced to the beat of every ABBA and Jowell & Randy song, I was hit with an earth-shattering wave of appreciation.

“What the hell did I do in my past life to deserve friends like these?”

Side note: Wore this amazing spotted and see-through dress from Anthropologie and my aunt's pearls.

Moving on, who needs to wait for a guy to ask her out to go on a date? Yuck. I'll be trading all awkward first dates for Pilates and Coffee dates with my best friends, thank you.

Super Bowl Sunday was just as amazing. And no, I didn’t watch the Justin-Bieber-less halftime show. Instead, I attended one of my best friend’s annual Galentines get-togethers. Heart-shaped pizza, coquette menus, good friends, and Shakira? Don’t mind if I do.

I wore this cowprint slip dress from Zara, which reminded me of something Kendall Jenner would wear (if she was on a budget), and fit the criteria for the leopard print trend going around without it being literal leopard print. I tried to channel my inner Alexander McQueen or John Galliano with my slick back, and then frizzy hair-do, topping it off with dark lipstick.

Meanwhile, February 13th was spent prepping for the big day:

I made these raspberry chocolate chip cookies from Broma Bakery to gift my friends on the day of. They turned out delicious, but if I were to make the recipe again, I’d add a little less baking soda than the recipe requires. Then, I made a batch of pink, heart-shaped pancakes for my parents and me the following morning. Topping it off by prepping my chocolate-covered strawberries and making some flower arrangements.

I also made another bouquet, which I enjoyed more than the flowers. What Galentines is complete without a smash cake? I'll take a bouquet of celebrity crushes over peonies any day.

And, I don’t know about your school, but Valentine's Day at my all-girl school is probably one of my favorite days of the year. I gave out my gifts, got some in return, and admired the balloon-grams that adorned every backpack.

That afternoon, I decorated my house and set up for a top-tier sleepover. I moved my mattress into the family room to make one enormous bed when conjoined with the sofa. Chinese takeout, smash cake, blankets, braids, and a pirated version of Anyone But You? Sounds like my type of night.

But really, what made it so great was the company. Why settle for one Valentine? I say the more, the merrier.

Yours truly,

a friend
